Ancient Symbol Embroidered Throw

Artisan Project

$500.00

Designed by Artisan Project and woven by their fourth-generation artisanal weaver in Fes, this cotton throw is crafted from raw cotton and embroidered with colorful patterns inspired by ancient Amazigh symbols.

Artisan Project works with ‘Amazigh’ women to produce their textiles. From knotting and weaving to cleaning and finishing, they oversee every part of the process and reinterpret our designs using age-old techniques. Known to most as Berbers, their true name is ‘Amazigh’ meaning ‘free humans’. Amazigh culture comes with a rich textile history, that’s deeply-rooted in nature and the landscape.

Meet the Maker

Artisan Project

Artisan Project curates sourcing experiences and designs contemporary, handcrafted textiles, working hand-in-hand with craftspeople. The core values of Artisan Project are honesty, fairness, transparency and achieving the highest quality. Hands, hearts and minds collaborate in the Artisan Project. Their ethos is to honor Moroccan artisanship, improve the lives of craftspeople and their families and ensure hand-weaving skills continue to thrive.

The Inspiration

Artisan Project works hand-in-hand with fourth generation weavers to make their textiles in ancient Fez medina. And two hours from the city, in the Middle Atlas Mountains, the Ain Leuh women’s weaving cooperative makes their bespoke blankets and selected hand-knotted rugs, on vertical looms.

The Impact

They work with ‘Amazigh’ women to produce our fine wool rugs. From knotting and weaving to cleaning and finishing, they oversee every part of the process and reinterpret their designs using age-old techniques.
